The Internet

While the Internet can be utilized as a praiseworthy effective tool to make your goals easier to obtain, it will never replace the simple basics of recruiting and placing top talent in the workplace.

In the past couple of years I have seen the misuse of the Internet take successful, high producing Recruiters totally out of production and, sad to say, out of our business. When a Recruiter becomes addicted to the Internet and allows what they think might be an easier, softer way to replace the basics of recruiting, it will always lead to disaster.

Time management and sticking to the basics will allow this valuable tool to be used to augment what really is a simple process. When used effectively, the Internet can increase a Recruiter’s income substantially. The placement process allows for 5.5 hours of human contact per day. Do not spend that precious contact time going from web site to web site, fantasizing about the perfect match.

The ideal way to use the Internet to it’s maximum potential is to have a dedicated person solely responsible for all Internet activity. This would include, but is not limited to:

  • posting search assignments/job orders.
  • qualifying and distributing e-mail and faxed-in responses to those postings.
  • pulling resumes off other web sites that fit current requirements and qualifying and distributing those.
  • looking up company information for marketing purposes.
  • researching company employment opportunities sections and printing job descriptions and specifications for both marketing and recruiting.
  • going into company profiles and securing names for recruiting purposes.

These are just a few continuous activities that a person will need to do on a daily basis to use the Internet effectively. There are many other things that will come up as a result of trying to pull resources off the Internet and will depend on the time and effort you can spend to utilize them. If you are a sole Recruiter, then trying to do all of these activities will be quite a chore. Time management to allow for selling time will be crucial to your success, using the Internet as a production tool.
